Become a Christian

The choice to become a Christian is the most important decision a person can make. There are a few important points to remember in the choice to place faith in Christ.

First, a person should realize that he or she is separated from God because of sin-those actions which have "missed the mark" of God's will for our lives. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

Second, a person should understand that God sent his only Son, Jesus, on our behalf. Jesus lived a perfect, sin-free life, and he sacrificed himself on the cross because of our sins. Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Three days after dying on the cross, Jesus rose from the dead, thereby conquering death and sin and making it possible for all people to be reconciled (made right) with God.

Third, any person who desires to have a right relationship with God should repent (turn around) from his or her sin and accept Christ's free gift of grace through faith (trusting that God will save us if we repent), made possible by Jesus' death and resurrection. Romans 10:9 says, "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Anyone who chooses by free will to accept Christ as their Savior by faith will be eternally saved from separation from God.

Fourth, Baptists believe a person who accepts Christ should follow Jesus' example in believer's baptism by immersion and join a local church.
